Q: I am not sure what pram or stroller to buy. How do I decide ?
A: Picking a pram or stroller is undoubtedly the most difficult decision to make. Many things need to be considered before making a decision. Firstly, what are your intentions and where will you be walking with your pram or stroller. If you are planning on doing a lot of walking outdoors say on roadways, footpath, park areas etc. Then it is important to select a pram or stroller with larger wheels. Generally speaking the larger the wheel the more suitable it will be for handling & manoeuvering on rough, uneven surfaces.

Ultimately a fixed wheel pram like an Emmaljunga is the most suitable for this terrain as the pram will always stay steering smoothly in a straight direction. .

All swivel wheel prams, regardless of the wheel type will always tend to follow grooves and downhill gradients or be purchased of course by rocks and bumps in the surface.

Jogging prams have certainly been very popular in the past 3-5 years as they offer the best manoeuverability and generally the wheels are suitable for outdoor terrain. .

Other features to look out for in prams are;

• Weight.

• Size Fold.

• Folding Mechanism.

Ability to accommodate a second child if needed.

Construction i.e. plastic/ metal/ aluminum – Particularly in coastal area where corrosion and rust is an issue.

Often many parents have 2 prams. One for outdoor use and with larger wheels to suite rough terrain. Another smaller light stroller or pram for shopping centres, public transport or quick trips away. .

Q: How long is a baby in a car seat?
A: A child is in a car seat generally speaking until they are 26kg (roughly 6-7 years old) .

From newborn to 8kg your child will be in a capsule or a 0-4 convertible car seat. Your child will face rearward in you vehicle to ensure the safest position for travelling. .

Once your child is 8kg the child restraint can be turned around to forward facing. It is recommended that child restraint and capsule are fitted by an accredited child restraint installer to ensure the safety of your child. Q: How old does my child need to be, to sit in a booster seat?
A: Again it is all about the weight of your child. Most booster seats are weight rated from 14-26kg. Often if you are putting your child in a booster seat at the minimum weight of 14kg it is advisable to also use the optional harness (rrp$39.95) in conjunction with the booster seat to ensure your child is secured better than just using the car seat belt. .

Another safer alternative to the booster seat is Safe n Sound Maxi rider seat. This seat is rated for 8kg to 26kg and has a built in harness. Q: Can I put my baby straight into a cot?
A: Yes. Most people do use a bassinet or cradle to start with as it make is easy to move a bassinet or cradle in and out of rooms. This means that if your child is not settling you can choose to have your baby next to you in your bedroom for the first few months ?? a bassinet or cradle is only used for the first 6 months.

If you are putting your child into a cot you can use something like snuggle bed or cuddle beds which nests your child into a smaller area making it a little easier and protecting them from the hard wooden sides and ends.

It is also worth noting that SIDS do recommend using minimum bed linen and short sheeting your cot sheets so that your baby does not end with excessive bedding which may bunch up and cause excessive heating or restrict airflow.

Q: Can I fit a toddler seat to my pram or stroller?
A: Only models specifically made to fit toddler seats are suitable for additional children. Most prams or joggers that comply with Australia standard for an additional seat will only hold a child form 15kg to 20kg, depending on that model.

Q: Can I fit a skateboard to a pram or stroller?
A: Again you will generally find a skateboard of some sort to fit your pram, jogger or stroller. Skateboards are designed to fit on the rear of your pram, jogger or stroller to accommodate an older child form approximately 15kg to 25kg (3-6 years old)
